• Beginning
  The story starts out by introducing a young boy named Jonas living in a Utopian Society. The rules of the small village become known to the reader in the first few chapters of the book. Jonas is about to grow one year older and is awaiting his new placement in society.
• Middle
  Jonas is given his new job as the reciver of memories. He begins to find out more and more about the Utopia he lives in. As he recives the memories from The Giver he sees color for the first time. Jonas also feels pain which is something new for him. Jonas also takes part in the raising of a young baby named Gabriel that has been given to his family unit to take care of.
• End
  Jonas begins to form feelings about the Utopia in which he lives and starts to see its flaws. He decides to run away from the village after finding out about the inner workings of the society. The story ends will Jonas getting away with Gabriel finding freedom for once in his life.
